Argali and hunt in Kirghizia

There are two different argali species in Kirghizian Tien Shan mountains according to the classification of Grand Slam Club / Ovis, and their distribution area border is the Naryn river.  Hunt is conducted at the altitude of 3,000 m - 4,000 m (10,000 – 12,500 ft) a.s.l. Typical for these highlands is thin air and temperature ranging from 0°C +10°C during the hunting season. High quality of organization, good sheep population and experienced guides service allow hunters of different age and health conditions to be successful; however good physical shape is also very important.

From Bishkek, the capital of Kirghizia, you will be transfered to the camp by jeeps (about 10-12 h.). Slow rise of altitude allows you to adopt and acclimatize easily. Anyway you may want to take a helicopter to get to the camp (2 - 2,5 h from Bishkek to different camps), which is a unique chance to see Tian Shan mountains form a bird’s eye panorama.

Late in October-November snow brings sheep lower for rut and food. Sometimes it is possible to see up to 300 sheep per day at this period. The usual way of the hunt is a horseback riding and glassing. You have to be prepared for up to 300 – 400 yard shot. Trophy size of the sheep may vary from 120 cm to 150 cm (47 in.- 59 in.). When your argali hunt is finished you can continue with an ibex hunt.
